The Necklace
Introduction:
The Necklace novel was
written by Guy de Maupassant. (Title and Author) The story is about Mathildle Loisel was a complex
lady who had opened eyes in the clerical family. In the story, her luck took her
into a strange realm of troubles. She has a loving caring husband. But her
inner turmoil or pain pinches her always throughout the novel. Her poverty
seems to be a high obstacle in enjoying her life. She has a jealousy element in
her character. Madame Forestier is her rich friend. Mathidle feels low in front
of her due to poor old-style cloths. Mathidle proves she is greedy, selfish and
ungrateful. (Character no 1 trait). Mr. Loisel her husband is simple,
kind-hearted yet a fool man. Mathidle goes through a situation that entirely
changed her perception of life. This mistake of destiny leads her to the right path
of true virtue, happy and blessed life. She realized at the end of the story that
her husband and family is her priority and real happiness in life. The Necklace
has given her a message that what she is lacking in her life is actually her
strength. Wealth, fame is just part of fairy tales.
The character of Mathidle and her Realm into the story:
Mathidle is a ungrateful,
selfish and greedy character in The Necklace novel. She is a restless soul. She
never gets satisfied with what she holds. She always keeps an eye on other
wealth. She is a status go conscious character. She never wants to live a poor
life. Her desire is to be rich. She never feels ashamed of borrowing things from
others. Her complex puts her in trouble when she lost the necklace at the party.
Mathidle has found happy
once in the novel when she wore borrowed clothes and jewellery at a night party. While
attending the party she forgot who she was. She was flying across the sky and considered
herself as part of the wealthy class of her city. She totally lost herself in
the paradoxical scenario of imagining herself rich. Mathilde totally forgot her
husband who was sleeping in her flat. She wished that her glance of wealth
would never lose her charm. The borrowed clothes and jewellery gave her a sense
of satisfaction that holds her life in upcoming years too. She was unaware of the
situation which categorically changed her full life concerns. She was no doubt
a simple and innocent heart. But her greed showed every sparkling thing like gold.
Her husband insisted her to wear flowery jewellery in the party. This idea was not
made for her and she got annoyed with him. Mr Mathilde was a practical man who
knew the reality of life. He never appreciated living the life of fantasy. But
he loved his wife a lot and stays quiet at her decision of borrowing jewellery
from Madame Forestier. He gave her money to buy a new dress but won’t attend the
party. He wished to see her wife happy, enjoying and attending the party. Even
when Mathidle lost the necklace he fully supported her.
The character of Mr Mathidle:
Mr Mathidle is the second
character of our story. He is a simple kind-hearted and innocent man. He
worked as a clerk in an office. He blindly loves his family and wants to
sacrifice everything for them. He received an invitation to a party with his
family. He is a man who suggests her wife borrow the expensive necklace from
rich Madame Forestier. He is a hard-working man. When his wife lost the
necklace at the party he tries to arrange money for a new necklace. He spends all of
his earnings to return the borrowed necklace. He takes debt and arranges money. He
is ready to sacrifice himself for the sake of her beloved wife. Loisel seems to
be a man who believes in self-respect. He thinks to live life happily and contended.
It is his hard luck that he faced a lot of troubles and weird situations due to
his wife. He tries to arrange money by all means. He takes all responsibilities
on himself. He feels broken but never shares his feeling with anyone. He
appeared as an introvert sort of character. Loisel breaks her trust and
confidence. He still tries to please and relax her in this current worst
situation. Arranging a new diamond necklace is not an easy task. But he tries
his best to arrange it any cost.
Mr.
Mathidle Realm into the story:
Mr.Mathidle emerged
as an emotional man when he went out in search of a necklace in the mid of the night
on the streets. He was the one who planned the whole arrangements of buying a new
necklace. He also took loans and the payment of mortgagees to replace back the
necklace with Madame Forestier. Mathidle realized in the whole scenario the real
wealth of true relations. Analyzing characters like Mathidle seems to be
difficult from many angles. Most of the literary heads considered her as an
Innocent fool. My views give her the title of Dissatisfied and Self-Centered
Person. If we read about her past she appeared as a selfish soul. There is no
doubt her character has portrayed beautifully by Guy de Maupassant on paper. The
content or literature which has spread in form of words
in the novel truly controlled and managed by Mathidle Character.
Conclusion:
We will first discuss
about the three prominent traits of Madame Loisel. Our selected character appears
as a restless, ungrateful and greedy soul. She is lucky enough to have a husband
like Loisel but it won’t satisfy her. But her greed and complex have no end. In
the story, we see her husband Loisel who is a middle-class man. This self-independent
doesn’t satisfy her unthankful tongue. Her husband arranges her dress by
spending all of his money. Mathidle still wants a necklace for herself.
Now we will talk about Mr,
Loisel character. Our male character is not too much discussed in the
story. However, he proves as an important part of the story plot where his wife
lost her necklace. Mr..Loisel holds traits like a simple, sacrificial, emotional
fool. He doesn’t have control of his emotions. He never guides her wife about
all right and wrong. When the necklace gets lost at a party he spends the whole night
searching for it.
After comparing both characters
traits we can say they are the perfect match for each other. They both possess
traits that hold each other love and destiny.
