ITIKAF
what is itikaf?
The word i'tikaf belongs to the Arabic language which means to separate oneself, in Ramadan. During the last 10 days of Ramadan, many Muslims observe I'tikaf in the mosques, dissociating themselves from the world.
"the prophet (SAW) used to practice i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan till He died and then his wives used to practice i'tikaf after him."(Bukhari)
Types Of Itikaf
there are three types of itikaf
1) sunnah itikaf
In the last ten days of Ramadan, the Sunnah of I'tikaaf is performed to follow the Sunnah of our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
2) Nafl itikaf
the nafl itikaf can be performed on any day or night of the Year depending upon the will of the performer
3) wajib itikaf
wajib I'tikaaf is compulsory. When you perform I'tikaaf of God according to a niyyah or vow, I'tikaaf has become obligatory
Itikaf rules
- The first and most important rule is the person should be a Muslim.
- Then the second rule is that the most important thing in i'tikaf is that you will spend time doing it for the sake of God and pleasing Him by worshiping Him.
- Women should seek permission from their father or husband before performing I'tikaf.
- A man should offer itikaf in the mosque.
- This person should spend his time in prayer, recitation of the Qur'an, nafal ibadah, and supplication with dhikr.
- Fasting is also required during i'tikaf days.
Itiqaf for woman
women are also allowed to perform itikaf in their home .she should pick a proper place in her home and make it separate where other people cannot come
itikaf benefits
Offering itikaf has several benefits
- A person takes oneself from this materialistic world.
- A way to say thanks to ALLAH for his blessing.
- He/she gets time to develop a pure connection with GOD.
- Time for one's self - reflection.
- More time to understand and reciting the Quran.
- The best time to train oneself according to Islam.
- The purification of the heart and soul is also attained from itikaf.
