Hazrat Husain(as) was born on 3rd Shaaban,4th year of Hijri .when the good news of his birth reached the Holy Prophet (saw). he came to his daughter house, took the newly-born child in his arms, recited adhan and iqamah in his right and left erns respectively and named him al-Husain(as), in compliance with Allah's (Swt) command.
Angle jibrail(as) brought the very bad news that He conveyed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). The prophet's eyes became tearful and His happiness turned into mourning.
The Holy prophet informed Imam Ali (as) and He too began weeping.
when Fatimah Zahra inquired why was there weeping instead of happiness, The prophet gently told her: "jibrail descended from heaven and with the message of congratulations on the birth of your Holy son. He also revealed the painful news of the martyrdom of my precious grandson Husain(as) thirsty and
hungry in the far off plains of Karbala"
Fatima Zahra weep uncontrollably .she inquired: "O my father! when would my son be martyred?" The Holy Prophet replied:" when neither I, nor you, nor Ali and Hasan would be alive ." She inquired again," who then, O my father, would weep over my Hussain." The Holy Prophet said: " the men and women of a particular sect of my follower, who will befriend my Ahl al-Bayt, will mourn for Hussain and commemorate his martyrdom each year of every century."
verses of the Holy Quran about Hussain(as)
Imam Hussain(as) still a child when several verses of the Holy Quran were revealed either about or referring to him. one of those verses is referred to as the verse Mubahillah.
if anyone disputes in this matter with you, now after (full) knowledge has come to you, " come let us gather together,-our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then let us earnestly pray, and invoke the curse of Allah of those who!"(3.61).
"Allah surely want to keep to sin away from you, o people of the house! and to purify you an absolute purification".(The Holy Quran, 33.33)
In the other verse, Allah(SWT) commands all Muslims to love those close to Prophet Muhammed(PBUH).
"Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it but love for my near relatives?" (The Holy Quran, 42:32) When the companions asked Prophet Muhammad(saw) who these "near relatives" were, the Prophet (saw) replied: "They are Ali, Fatimah and their two children."
Hussain (as) spent his childhood with Lady Fatima Zahra (as), Imam Ali (as), and especially with Prophet Muhammad (saw). The love and affection Prophet Muhammad (saw) had towards Hussain (as) was so unique that all the companions were aware of it, had frequently seen the Prophet express it, and even had heard him speak of it repeatedly.
The companions had seen Prophet Muhammad (saw) repeatedly put Hassan (as) and Hussain (as) on his shoulders and play with them. At other times He would kiss Hussain (as) and say: "Hussain is from me, and I am from Hussain. May Allah love him who loves Hussain.“ In other traditions, the Prophet would say, "Hassan (as) and Hussain (as) are my two aromatic flowers from this world."

The Ashura Day(Friday october10,680 AD)
On the 10th of the month of Muharrem – The Ashura Day – Huseyn bin Ali was martyred at Karbala.
On Friday, October 10, 680, The day of Ashura, Imam Hussain (as), and some of his followers asked Ibn Sa'd and his army not to shed the blood of the Prophet's house. But Ibn Sa'd replied by shooting an arrow at the camp of Imam Hussain (as). Al-Hur realizes his mistake after one night of intense contemplation, and leaves Yazid's tent with his son and goes to Imam Hussein (as) in a state of humility. But Imam Hussain (as) received him with great joy. Hur's son and Hur went to fight, thus becoming one of the first martyrs to die on behalf of Imam Hussain (as). 72 brave soldiers fought a great battle on behalf of Imam Hussain (as). However, due to hunger and thirst, they fell one by one. And then Ali Akbar, the 18-year-old son of Imam Hussein (as), asked permission to fight. Imam Hussain (as) gave permission with tears and said goodbye to him. When He faced the enemy it did not matter to the so-called Muslims, they were blinded by hatred and the desire of rewards. Ali Akbar fought valiantly but finally fell with a spear embedded in his heart.
Imam Hussain (as) is attracted to his dying son Ali Akbar...
Bahadur Abbas (as), the Imam's brother, seeks permission to fight. Imam Hussain (as) does not allow Abbas (as) and asks him to fetch water for the children. Bahadur Abbas (as), who had been waiting for this day all his life, humbly bowed his head without saying a word and prepared to leave. Abbas (as) is heading towards the river. Yazid's soldiers run away as soon as they see Abbas because they were well aware of his power. Abbas (as) easily reaches the river and fills the water bag. He takes some water in his hands to drink, but, remembering his family's thirst, throws it back. On the way back, when Abbas (as) was passing through palm trees, some of Yazid's soldiers Attacked Abbas (as) from behind and cut off both his arms. But Bahadur Abbas (as) picked up a bag of water from his teeth and was still determined to give water to Sakina and the children. But the enemies shot arrows at Abbas (as) with great cruelty. Imam Hussain (as) ran towards his dying brother Abbas (as). Abbas (as) begs his brother not to take his body back to the camp, as He was ashamed not to bring water for Sakina and the other children.
Ali Asghar Imam Hussain (as) takes his thirsty six-month-old son to the enemy and asks him for water. The enemy responds by shooting a three-dimensional arrow (used to kill camels), which strikes the child and kills Ali Asghar instantly. Imam Hussain (as) returns to the tents with his son's body. Imam Hussain (as) did not want to show Ali Asghar's mother the condition of Ali Asghar. Imam Hussain (as) dug a small grave behind his tent and buried his newborn baby.
Finally, the last term of Imam Hussain (as) was left. He said goodbye to his family. As he was getting ready to leave on his horse, his daughter Sakina was on horseback. Imam Hussain (as) got down and comforted the crying little girl. ۔ Then Imam Hussain (as) left for the battlefield. After a fierce battle, a thirsty, wounded and tired Hussein fell on the battlefield with his dead comrades. The evil enemy then decapitates and mutilate the imam’s body order to send souvenirs to their master Yazid.
In less than half a day on the hot desert sand of Karbala on 10th Muharram 680 AH, the soldiers of Satan Yazid martyred Imam Hussain (as) and 72 members of his family. The martyrs were beheaded while their bodies were trampled by horses. These devils did not spare even 6-month-old Ali Asghar, because the enemy dug up his small body and hung his head on a spear.
This is not the end of the barbaric acts. The family members of Imam Hussain (as) were flogged. Their tents were burned and their belongings looted. Among the prisoners were Hussein's sister Zainab and daughter Sakina.
This day is of particular significance to Twelver Shia and Alawites, who consider Husayn (the grandson of Muhammad) Ahl al-Bayt, the third Imam to be the rightful successor of Muhammad.
